Mettā Atom

Mettā Atom makes high-energy electronic music that blends genres. It's written for the dance floor and for headphones alike, and it's built big enough for a festival stage. Every set is immersive, with live elements carried into the performance, so the music you hear on a record keeps moving when it's played in the room.

The name fuses two ideas: mettā, an ancient practice of loving-kindness, and atom, the smallest unit of the cosmos. The music lives between the two: old wisdom played on new instruments and sent out to whoever is listening back.

Born in Berkeley, Mettā Atom has studied music his whole life. He played instruments of every kind before falling in love with wind instruments, then studied formally in New York and Los Angeles. He's produced in Ableton and other DAWs since 2009, and his catalog runs from afro to reggae and jawaiian. House is home, though: tech house, progressive house, techno and everything in between. Some tracks are deep soundscapes with positive, thought-provoking lyrics. Others are percussive, melodic, deep, bass-heavy tracks built for a club, a festival or a sunset drive.

Based in Honolulu, Mettā Atom owns and runs Kala Waikiki, a lush, colorful venue with high ceilings and a surround-sound dance floor. Kala is closed for now. Follow @kala.waikiki on Instagram to stay updated.
